Weather & Conditions

Weather conditions in the Northern Rockies are ideally suited for Heli skiing. Our dry winter climate offers temperatures which range from -5 celsius(23 fahrenheit) down to -20 celsius or -4 degrees Fahrenheit.

Unfortunately, there are no guarantees when it comes to the weather, temperatures can drop down as low as minus 40 celsius or -40 degrees Fahrenheit for short periods of time.

For the most part, snow conditions historically range from good to outstanding 80% of our season. The effect of being on the Great Divide and in the 'rainshadow' of the eastward moving Pacific air, our area receives an abundance of percipitation, on an average 3.7 meters or 45 feet annually providing us with a base of 3-4 meters or 10-12 feet annually!

Storms dump blankets of Dry Powder onto our mountain tops and valley bottoms regularily, but they don't linger long, and always give way to magnificient, sunny blue skies. Again, the weather is unpredictable and no guarantees can be offered during your stay with us in the Northern Rockies.

With our tree line being at around 1600 meters (5200 feet) and some of our pick ups at 730 meters (2400 feet), our guides always strive to seek out skiing possibilities during the most challenging conditions in these sheltered areas. Your safety will always be our first concern. On average, there are only 5 days out of our 19 weeks season that we cannot heli ski at all.
